After 15 years of musical discoveries, Quasar inaugurates its 2010 – 2011 season with the passion and enthusiasm that have characterised the ensemble throughout its history.
The Montreal debut will feature the return of the In Vivo series, dedicated to improvised music. Under the theme « Out of bounds », this sixth edition of the series promises a lot of surprises, in which questioning the conventions becomes a rallying cry.
In February, our four virtuosi propose two programs based on the premiering of new works. Share with us these privileged moments in which new compositions come to life for the very first time. What will composers Cléo Palacio-Quintin, Charles Stolte, Simon Martin and Mark Molnar come up with? Be there to find out !
In May, Quasar will close its activities with the Alter Ego II concert, in which it will once again join forces with the Arte saxophone quartet. After a Montreal concert in 2005 which created a strong impression, followed by representations in Bâle, Lausanne, Lucerne and Zurich, the octet comes back to Quebec where it intends to leave its mark.
In addition to its own productions, Quasar will perform across the Montreal island with a concert called « From Bach to Zappa », produced by the Conseil des arts de Montréal’s touring program. The quartet will be invited by the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec to premiere a new composition by Wolf Edwards, and will also be heard in various venues throughout the province of Quebec. Vibrant ambassador of both local and international composers, Quasar will tour in Europe during the spring of 2011. It will play in France and, for the very first time, Germany. The group will also go to Swiss to write a new chapter in its adventure with Arte.
Quasar’s sixteenth season will soon take off. Be on board !
