Compositeur, violoniste et pedagogue, Jason Kao Hwang a crée des oeuvres couvrant un large spectre des musiques d'aujourd'hui, du jazz à la musique contemporaine classique en passant par la musique du monde. Son opéra de chambre The Floating Box, A Story in Chinatown , figure dans la liste des 10 meilleurs opéras de l'année 2006 de Opera News. Sa musique inclut souvent des instruments tradionnels asiatiques. Ainsi sa pièce In the Garden of Morning Glories créé l'automne dernier au Symphony Space (NYC) a été écrite violon, erhu, pipa et yanqin. Jason Hwang joue au sein de plusieurs groupes notamment EDGE et Local Lingo. En tant que violoniste, il a entre autre joué avec Anthony Braxton, Reggie Workman, William Parker, Henry Threadgill, Vladamir Tarasov et Tatsu Aoki. Jason Hwang est régulièrement soutenu par de nombreuses institutions tellles Meet the Composer, National Endowment for the Arts, New Jersey State Council on the Arts, et la Fondation Rockefeller.

Pour voix de baryton et quatuor de saxophones

Within Moments is an empathic expression of respect and love for my parents as I experience their transition from this earth. In this composition, the music emerged from various shapes within the text, from the narrative’s dramatic beats to the spirit of each word.  The voice and saxophones have a symbiotic relationship of protean nature. They breathe within each other to transform timbres, project narrative landscapes, unite propulsive rhythms, and evoke the emotional essence of sound within words. Within Moments is inspired by the great artistry of Thomas Buckner and the Quasar Saxophone Quartet.  I am grateful for their generous guidance and support.
